Session Description:
This session is held in Russian.
The session presents the experience of the Shah-Aiym Network in documenting hate crimes against sex workers in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Russia and Kazakhstan and in filing these cases with the OSCE/ODIHR. A review of the basic concepts (including the motives of prejudice and protected characteristics) will help to understand how a case is recognized as a hate crime/incident. Using the examples included in ODIHR's annual reports, we will talk about the phenomenon of whorephobia and the indicators of bias available in documented cases. The final theme of the session is the intersection and common features of hate crimes that all of our communities can be subjected to, as well as partnerships in gathering cases and advocacy opportunities.
